ABOUT ME
About Me; Why I Narrate
I was an extremely shy child. But I had a strong desire to share something meaningful, skillful, and aesthetic with others. I suffered through a few piano recitals until I realized I would like to try singing. Although I continued studying piano, I began to conquer my shyness and found a willing audience while singing. It was fun to thrill with high notes and skillful passages. It filled my heart when others deeply felt the meaning that I worked so hard to convey. I began acting at a local theatre and also at my high school and found a joyful camaraderie with others who were a lot like me! But most of all, I adored certain books and found myself drawn to them again and again. I discovered that audible books really helped me during the isolation of the pandemic and that I could do the dishes or clean while enjoying listening. I laughed out loud many times during my favorite James Herriot books, narrated by Christopher Timothy -also being a fan of the television series. I got to hear my beloved stories from a favorite author and hear the comforting voice and style of a favorite actor associated with the show as well. My love of sharing through performance is deeply ingrained in me. I love my audience and want them to fully feel the heights and depths of each intriguing story.
MY CAREER
Training & Experience
My massive love of reading and books began at an early age. My mother said I insisted she read the same few books to me over and over, which probably helped me memorize the words until I could basically read by age 4. I was utterly fascinated by how other people lived, and how they talked and responded to other characters. I enjoyed the flow of the plot and the feeling of being immersed in another world. This naturally led to acting in school and local theatre. I spend many nights downtown in Springfield, Missouri, rehearsing, working the house, or performing with The Stained Glass Theatre. As a result, I was elbow-to-elbow with some very talented actors and learned a great deal about how to effectively share with an audience. My studio training began after I transferred to Belmont University in my 20s when I started singing choral sessions for Brentwood-Benson, Word, and various music publishing companies. We would listen down to a song in the headphones and sing along with the orchestration while sight-reading it at the same time. Then the recording light would come on and our small group would tackle 2-3 pages at a time - singing at performance level immediately. Years later, my brother, who is also my excellent studio engineer and co-producer, suggested I record books. I always was curious about how to do that and was pleasantly surprised to find that with technological advances and social media, there were now many opportunities to read and record books. I stepped back into the studio to find that it suited me to share my love of stories in front of a microphone.
